The Records Division is responsible for the receipt, filing and maintenance of Circuit Court Cases in soft (i.e. microfilm) and hard copy. The Wayne County Clerk is also charged with establishing and maintaining a central archival records system for the non-active records of all county departments.

Available Records
- Civil Court records (includes Divorce records) are available from 1942 to present.
- Criminal records from 1942 to 1983, outside of the City of Detroit but within Wayne County are available.
- For Criminal records within the City of Detroit or after 1983, contact Frank Murphy Hall of Justice records room at (313) 224-2502.
- All files from 2010 to present are available for viewing in the records room.
- Older files will have to be ordered over from Archives for viewing.
- Any file ordered before 4:30 pm will be available the following business day after 2 pm.
- Files are held for 5 calendar days only before being sent back.
- Name Change documents after 1996 are available at the Wayne County Clerk Records Division.
- Name Change documents before 1996 are located with the Wayne County Probate Court.
