Records

The Records Division is responsible for the receipt, filing and maintenance of Circuit Court Cases in soft (i.e. microfilm) and hard copy. The Wayne County Clerk is also charged with establishing and maintaining a central archival records system for the non-active records of all county departments.

Available Records

  • Civil Court records (includes Divorce records) are available from 1942 to present.
  • Criminal records from 1942 to 1983, outside of the City of Detroit but within Wayne County are available.
  • For Criminal records within the City of Detroit or after 1983, contact Criminal Justice Center (CJC) records room at (313) 224-2502.
  • All files from 2014 to present are available for viewing in the records room.
  • Older files that need to be ordered from Archives will be available the following business day after 2 pm and will be held for five (5) days.
  • Name Change documents after 1998 are available at the Wayne County Clerk Records Division.
  • Name Change documents before 1998 are located with the Wayne County Probate Court.

  • The Pay Location Code (PLC) for Wayne County is 6223.
  • Email request along with required documentation and receipt pdf to: wcrecordroom@waynecountymi.gov
  • Certified/Authenticated documents must be mailed because of the raised seal, once payment verification is received.

  • Regular uncertified documents can be emailed or mailed.
  • Certified/Authenticated documents must be mailed because of the raised seal.
  • Uncertified copies are $2.00 per page.
  • Certified/Authenticated copies are $10.00 for the certification, plus $1.00 per page, in addition to the $2.00 per page copy fee.
  • Please be aware there is an additional $2.50 fee for all credit and debit payments. (Credit and debit cards are accepted.  No personal checks accepted.)
