During the 2022–23 school year, members traveled to Lansing to meet with state representatives and discuss gun control legislation, and they have also made recommendations to expand student mental health support.

She also hosts quarterly “Getting to Know Wayne County” forums, connecting residents with resources and information to help strengthen their communities.

The council was established through a resolution drafted by Commissioner Monique Baker McCormick and includes students nominated by all 15 county commissioners from high schools in their districts. Students interested in joining for the next school year can contact her office for more information.
