"Studies have highlighted the issues many veterans face, including posttraumatic stress disorder and feelings of isolation. Operation Green Light is a way to let our veterans know we care and I'd really like to see it carried out throughout the county in future years," Commissioner Baker McCormick (D-Detroit), who is a U.S. Army veteran.
Wayne County Commissioners gave the green light the week of Nov. 7 to its military veterans as the county participated in Operation Green Light for Veterans, a national program organized by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers.
A ceremony was held outside county offices at the historic Guardian Building in downtown Detroit as the building was bathed in green light as a show of support for veterans.
