.Born and raised in Detroit, a city she proudly calls home, Angelique Peterson-Mayberry is a product of grit, grace, and generational purpose. Rooted in the values of dignity, hard work, and advocacy, Angelique’s path was shaped early by her mother Sylvia and strengthened through the powerful lens of union activism, community marches, and political engagement. As a third-generation UAW autoworker, she gained firsthand exposure to the power of collective voice, igniting a lifelong pursuit of justice, equity, and meaningful change.

At just 25 years of age, Angelique made history as the youngest, and the first African American woman, elected Trustee of UAW Local 245, breaking barriers and setting a new standard for leadership in labor. From there, she cultivated a dynamic and purpose-driven career, holding key roles including Employee Resource Coordinator, Women’s Committee Chairperson, Certified Diversity Facilitator, and International UAW Ford Community Relations Director.

Prior to her retirement from the private sector, Angelique served as Global DEI Manager for Manufacturing at Ford Motor Company, Executive Program Director for the National Joint DEI Ford Department, and President of the Detroit Public Schools Community District Board of Education. Her leadership consistently championed inclusive workplace cultures and equitable educational policy, leaving a lasting mark on both industry and community.

Even in retirement from corporate life, Angelique remains a steadfast advocate for underserved populations and a devoted mentor to the next generation. Whether organizing grassroots initiatives, coaching future leaders, or lending her voice to systemic change, she continues to lead with purpose and heart.

Today, Angelique proudly serves as the Wayne County Commissioner for District 5, where she continues her unwavering commitment to public service. In this role, she advocates for responsive governance, community investment, and equitable access to opportunity for all residents.

Her impact has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Michigan Chronicle’s Woman of Excellence, NAACP’s Great Expectations Award, United Way’s Woman of Influence and Volunteer of the Year, African American Leadership in Education Award, and Fellowship Chapel’s Mother of the Year.

Guided by faith and fueled by service, Angelique finds joy in mentoring young girls, serving in her church, and creating lasting memories with her husband Chris, adult children Brooklyn and Jorden, and their beloved dog Stormy.

Angelique lives by this enduring truth: show up with intention, serve with integrity, and leave every space better than you found it—enriched by your presence, your purpose, and your power.Top of FormBottom of Form
