Criminal Investigation
About the Criminal Investigations Division (CID)
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) serves as the investigative arm of the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. Our division is comprised of sworn state-certified law enforcement officers with extensive experience in criminal investigations. Many of our detectives bring expertise from multiple distinguished organizations, including the Detroit Police Department, Michigan State Police, as well as a wide variety of other well respected local law enforcement agencies.
Our Mission: The CID is dedicated to providing exceptional investigative support to assistant prosecutors. Specializing in pre-trial investigations, our detectives play a vital role in gathering critical evidence and assist the assistant prosecutors after warrants are issued and individuals are taken into custody.
Areas of Investigation In addition to pre-trial investigations, CID detectives handle a wide range of cases initiated by the Prosecutor’s Office. These include but are not limited to:
Detectives are assigned to specialized units such as the Public Integrity Unit, Special Victims Unit, Homicide Unit and the Conviction Integrity Unit. Additionally, CID assists the Felony Non-Support Unit, which addresses child support enforcement cases which rise to the level of a felony.
CID detectives are highly skilled and well-regarded by their peers for their investigative knowledge and expertise, and often assist with complex investigations. Due to their extensive experience and specialized training, detectives in the Criminal Investigations Division are trusted partners in tackling some of the most challenging and high-profile cases in Wayne County.
Our division also has the Sexual Assault Kit Task Force and the Mortgage and Deed Fraud Unit. These specialized units are staffed with highly skilled detectives who are well-versed in investigating these crimes.
Our detectives work closely with the 43 police agencies throughout Wayne County and collaborate with many federal law enforcement partners to ensure justice is served.
