WCERS pays monthly retirement benefits to eligible retirees and beneficiaries. This page explains how payments are made and provides a pay day guide for Calendar Year 2026.

What your monthly benefit may include

Your monthly payment reflects the pension benefit you earned through service and contributions under the applicable plan provisions. Amounts may vary based on elections and required deductions.

  • Monthly retirement pension payment

  • Tax withholding (federal and Michigan), if you elect withholding
  • Other authorized deductions (for example, court-ordered deductions or overpayment recovery, if applicable)

Forms of payment

WCERS issues monthly benefits using one of the payment methods below:

  • Direct Deposit (Recommended): Funds are deposited into your bank or credit union account on the scheduled check date.
  • Paper Check (Limited Use): A check is mailed to the address on file. Mail delivery times vary.
Deadline reminder: Requests received after the “Benefit Changes Due” date are processed in the following month’s cycle.

When will my monthly benefit be available in my bank account?

If you are enrolled in direct deposit, funds are typically posted on the scheduled check date. Posting time can vary by financial institution, so some banks may show the deposit earlier or later in the day.

What if I don’t see my payment on the check date?

First, check with your bank or credit union (direct deposit) or allow time for mail delivery (paper check). If you still do not have your payment, contact the Payroll Help Line at (313) 224-2774.

How do I change my direct deposit or update my mailing address?

Submit the appropriate form as early as possible. To be effective for a given month, changes must be received by the Benefit Changes Due deadline shown in the schedule above. Requests received after that deadline are processed in the following month.

Will holidays affect the payment date?

The schedule reflects the planned check dates. If a check date falls on a non-business day, processing may occur on the next business day. Use the schedule table as your primary guide and contact WCERS payroll if you have questions.

What deductions can appear on my monthly payment?

Depending on your election and legal requirements, deductions may include tax withholding, insurance premiums or other authorized deductions, and court-ordered deductions. If you have questions about a deduction, contact WCERS.
