Deferred Members

WCERS provides retirement services for Active, Deferred, Retired Wayne County Employees, Wayne County Airport Authority Employees and Wayne County 3rd Circuit Court Employees.

If you separate service with 10 years or more and you were a member of the Defined Benefit Plan you qualify for a Deferred Retirement Benefit once you reach the age of 65. The following is an example of how the deferred retirement benefit would work.

**Example of Deferred Retirement Benefit:

  1. If an employee separates service from Wayne County at age 35 with 10 years or more of credited service without taking a refund of their Defined Benefit contributions and;

  2. The employee did not qualify for normal retirement benefits at the time of separation, then;

  3. The employee would be eligible to contact The Wayne County Employees’ Retirement System to apply for their Deferred Benefit once they reached the age of 65.

**Please note: If you take a withdrawal of your Defined Benefit Plan contributions you lose future pension benefits once you reach age 65.
