Sensory Friendly Events

Wayne County Parks is excited to offer sensory programs for individuals with cognitive disabilities or sensory sensitivity. 

Pre-registration is required for these programs by calling (734) 261-1990. The fee is $5.00 per person unless otherwise noted.

 

SENSORY REPTILE AND AMPHIBIAN ENCOUNTER at Nankin Mills Interpretive Center

Friday, April 17 from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Up–close live animals encounter, Michigan frogs, turtles, snakes and salamanders, and their habitat adaptations. 

 

SENSORY CREATING WITH NATURE at Crosswinds Marsh

Tuesday, June 9 from 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM  

Let your creative juices flow with activities inspired by nature!

 

SENSORY SCAVENGER HUNT at Crosswinds Marsh

Tuesday, July 14 from 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM  

Search for objects in nature that satisfy the senses.

 

SENSORY SWIM at the Wayne County Family Aquatic Center

Saturday, August 8 from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

The sensory swims will allow individuals with special needs the chance to enjoy early access to the waterpark in a less crowded environment. Pre-registration is not required but daily park admission is required per person. 

 

SENSORY MEET THE MARSH at Crosswinds Marsh

Tuesday, August 11 from 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM  

Skulls, skins and skeletons of marsh inhabitants. Meet a few live reptiles up close.
