Detroit Teen Charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 16-year-old juvenile male of Detroit, in connection with carrying a concealed weapon. 

On May 17, 2026, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Library Street for a reported shooting of a 14-year-old Detroit boy. While canvassing the area, officers observed the juvenile in the 600 block of Woodward Avenue carrying a concealed weapon. Officers then approached the juvenile and placed him into custody.

The juvenile respondent has been charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon.*

The preliminary hearing was held this afternoon at the Juvenile Detention Facility before Referee Leslie Graves. The juvenile respondent received a $4,000/10% bond with house arrest. He was also ordered not to have possession of any firearms and no illegal substances. His next court date is a Pre-Trial before Judge Aliyah Sabree on July 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. via Zoom.

Detroit police officers placed another juvenile male into custody in connection with the shooting. He is currently being held in the Juvenile Detention Facility. WCPO is taking the statutory 5 day hold for a juvenile suspect before making a charging decision. The decision must be made by Saturday, May 23, 2026.
