Detroit Man Charged with Animal Abuse of Two Dogs

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Christopher Alan Draughan, 36, of Detroit, in connection with abandoning his two of his pet dogs allowing one to freeze to death, and another surviving dog to be neglected and abandoned in the cold.

On February 1, 2026, at approximately 4:45 p.m., Detroit police officers and Detroit Animal Care and Control received information about two neglected dogs at a residence in the 3400 block of Garland Street, in Detroit. When they went to investigate, they observed one emaciated deceased dog and one emaciated neglected dog that was alive. The surviving dog was taken to the Advanced Animal Emergency Hospital for treatment. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of Defendant Draughan on March 2, 2026.

Christopher Alan Draughan has been charged with two counts of Animals – Killing/Torturing – Second Degree, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, one count of Felony Firearm, one count of Animals – Abandoning Cruelty to One Animal Resulting in the Animal’s Death, and one count of Animals – Abandoning Cruelty to One Animal. *

He was arraigned this morning in 36th District Court before Magistrate Delphia Burton and received a $20,000 personal bond. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for March 12, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for March 19, 2026, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Ronald Giles.
