Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Daiwan Lemane Hopson, 31, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal stabbings of Martisha Payne, 25, of Detroit, and Jakirea Williams, 31, of Chesterfield Township, and the non-fatal stabbings of a 31-year-old man, of Pontiac, and a 40-year-old man of Detroit.

On August 9, 2025, at approximately 9:58 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 18500 block of Fleming Street for a reported stabbing. Upon their arrival, officers observed the victims suffering from multiple stab wounds. Medics arrived on the scene and transported Ms. Payne, Mr. Williams, and the 31-year-old victim to a local hospital for treatment. The 40-year-old victim was privately transported to a local hospital for treatment. Ms. Payne and Mr. Williams succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased a short time later.

It is alleged that a verbal altercation in the backyard of the home between Defendant Hopson and the 40-year-old victim escalated, and Defendant Hopson produced a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times. It is further alleged that the altercation moved to the front yard of the home and Defendant Hopson stabbed Ms. Payne, Mr. Williams, and the 31-year-old victim multiple times, before fleeing the scene. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of Defendant Hopson on August 15, 2025.

Daiwan Lemane Hopson has been charged with two counts of First-Degree Murder and two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder.*

“What started out as a friendly family and friends end of the summer gathering turned deadly with four people stabbed. Two succumbed to their injuries. A disagreement. A quick escalation. An introduction of a deadly weapon. And then multiple deaths. So senseless. So tragic. And so very violent,” said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

Arrangements are being made for Defendant Hopson to be arraigned in 36th District Court. An update will be sent out when arraignment information is received. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Detroit Police Department after the arraignment.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
