Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Derek Attee Alesmaily, 23, of Canton, in connection with the non-fatal stabbings of his 42-year-old mother, and his 21-year-old brother, both of Canton, and his 22-year-old sister, of Dearborn.

On October 14, 2025, at approximately 3:39 p.m., Canton police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 3700 block of Parklawn Drive for a reported stabbing. Upon their arrival, officers located the two victims in the driveway of the home and one victim in the roadway in front of the home, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victims to a local hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that Defendant Alesmaily produced a knife and stabbed the victims multiple times, before fleeing the scene. Investigation by the Canton Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant a short time later. More complete facts and evidence will be placed on the record in court at the Preliminary Examination.

Derek Attee Alesmaily has been charged with three counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, three counts of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, and three counts of Felonious Assault.*

“It is ironic that this happened during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This family has experienced a horrific tragedy. We will prosecute this offender and bring the victims the justice that they deserve,” said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

The defendant was supposed to be arraigned today at 1:00 p.m., but it was moved up and WCPO was not advised. He was arraigned today in 35th District Court, before Judge Michael Gerou, and received a $3 million cash bond. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 24, 2025, and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 31, 2025.
