Detroit Man Charged in Robbery and Sexual Assault of Detroit Woman

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Marcus James Edwards, 27, (DOB: 06/14/1994), of Detroit, in connection with the robbery and sexual assault of a 26-year-old Detroit woman.

On January 9, 2022, the victim met the defendant at an apartment complex in the 5040 block of East Outer Drive in Detroit to solicit herself to perform sexual acts for money. When the defendant entered the victim's car, it is alleged that Defendant Edwards produced a handgun. It is further alleged that the defendant robbed and sexually assaulted the victim before fleeing the scene. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant on February 16, 2022.

Marcus James Edwards has been charged with one count of Armed Robbery, one count of Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Assault, one count of Larceny from a Person, one count of Felonious Assault, and four counts of Felony Firearm. *

He was arraigned on February 18, 2022 in 36th District Court and given a $250,000 cash/surety bond. His Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for February 25, 2022, at 8:30 a.m., and his Preliminary Examination is scheduled for March 4, 2022, at 8:45 a.m. in 36th District Court before Judge Kenneth King.
