Community Development

Wayne County Community Development supports activities to build stronger and more resilient communities within Wayne County. We work closely with both public and private organizations to secure funding for 38 communities within Wayne County, focusing on supporting low- to moderate-income individuals, families, and neighborhoods. These funds support a wide range of activities, including infrastructure upgrades, affordable housing development, improved public services, blight elimination, and homelessness prevention, all of which contribute to economic growth and community prosperity. The Community Development Division upholds the National Objective, as outlined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), of benefiting low- to moderate-income people and neighborhoods, through programs such as the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), and the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP). These HUD sponsored programs provide critical and essential funding to support community development throughout Wayne County.
