Wayne County goes green to support military veterans
Wayne County Commissioners gave the green light today to military vets by participating in Operation Green Light for Veterans, a national program organized by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers.
The program adds green lights at and outside county offices at the Guardian Building, 500 Griswold in downtown Detroit, as a show of support for veterans.
“Our veterans have sacrificed on behalf of all of us and the commission has a special committee dedicated to their interests, but participating in Operation Green Light is a truly honorable way to publicly show our support,” Wayne County Commission Chair Alisha Bell (D-Detroit) said.
Commissioners Monique Baker McCormick (D-Detroit) and David Knezek (D-Dearborn Heights) joined Chair Bell in sponsoring the resolution. Both are U.S. military veterans.
With Veterans Day observed Tuesday, commissioners noted that this was the perfect time to let veterans know they are not forgotten.
