On August 23, 2025, Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Demontrel Benard Wilson, 30, Deonate Cornealous Cherry, 28, Terrance Jaland Blue, 28, all of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of six-year-old Rylee Love, of Detroit.

On July 27, 2025, at approximately 8:58 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Anglin Street and Stender Avenue for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers were flagged down by relatives of a home in the 17400 block of Anglin Street regarding a child gunshot wound victim. Officers located Rylee in the bedroom of the home suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Medics arrived on the scene and transported Rylee to a local hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The defendants produced and fired handguns multiple times from a vehicle into a group of people standing near the intersection of Anglin Street and Stender Avenue. The stray bullets entered the residence in the 17400 block of Anglin Street, striking Rylee who was playing inside the house when he was fatally shot in the head in the head. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendants on August 20, 2025.

Demontrel Benard Wilson, Deonate Cornealous Cherry, and Terrance Jaland Blue were charged with Conspiracy to Commit First-Degree Murder, First-Degree Murder, Conspiracy to Discharge Firearms from a Vehicle Causing Death, Discharging Firearms from a Vehicle Causing Death. Wilson and Blue were also been charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.

“Rylee Love was the ultimate innocent victim. The alleged actions of these defendants directly caused his senseless death. I have said many times that bullets have no eyes or sense of direction. The bullets in this case struck a child playing in his house and he will not see another day,” said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

The defendants were arraigned and remanded to jail on August 23, 2025. On July 21, 2026, Defendant Cherry pleaded guilty to Second-Degree Murder with a sentence agreement of 20-40 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC).

Today, Defendant Wilson was found guilty of Second-Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person by a jury. Defendant Blue was found guilty as charged on all counts by a jury. They are scheduled to be sentenced on September 2, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., before Judge Donald Knapp.
