Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Donald James Joseph Arthur Fields, 48, of Hamtramck, in connection with the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl, also of Hamtramck.

On April 13, 2026, at approximately 7:05 a.m., a female student who attends Frontier International Academy in Hamtramck with the victim observed her waiting for the bus. She noticed a male walk up to the victim, place something at her back and force her into the back of his van.  The defendant drove away from the scene. At 7:09 a.m., student called 911 and the Hamtramck police officers were dispatched to the area of Edwin Street and Brombach Street in Hamtramck for a possible kidnapping.

It is alleged that the defendant was armed with a handgun, and that he sexually assaulted the victim inside the van. Police went to the victim’s school to investigate the kidnapping. While at the school several students were observed with their cellphones tracking the victim’s location by placing her cellphone number into cell phone location data and social media. A police officer used this information to relay the victim’s location to other police units.

The defendant drove the victim to a convenience store at a gas station in the 18000 block of Conant Street in Detroit. He accompanied her inside the store for her to purchase cigarettes for him.  While inside, the victim was able to signal to the cashier that she was in danger.  The cashier immediately came to her aid and the defendant quickly left. By this time, the Hamtramck police had arrived at the gas station after tracking the cellphone signal to the store. They arrested the defendant, confiscated a handgun, and impounded the van.

Donald James Joseph Arthur Fields has been charged with two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree, Kidnapping, one count of Felonious Assault, three counts of Felony Firearm and one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. *

“Our young survivor in this case was simply walking in broad daylight when she was viciously attacked and sexually assaulted. Despite what she had just gone through, her quick thinking and mental toughness saved her life. We cannot reverse what happened to her, but we can work hard to bring justice to her, “ said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

He was arraigned and remanded to jail this morning in 31st District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for April 30, 2026, at 9:00 a.m, via Zoom, and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for May 7, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
