Detroit Teen Charged in Non-Fatal Shooting at St. John Hospital

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a Trejion Sanders, 17, of Detroit, in connection with a non-fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man, of Eastpointe. The victim was working as a security guard at Henry Ford St. John Hospital at the time of the incident. Defendant Sanders is being charged as an adult defendant.
On March 6, 2026, at approximately 11:53 a.m., at Henry Ford St. John Hospital, located in the 19200 block of Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods, it is alleged that the defendant was attempting to break into vehicles in the parking lot of the hospital. When approached by security officers, it is alleged that Defendant Sanders reached for his handgun. A security officer deployed his department issued taser, but it did not take effect. It is further alleged that the defendant pointed and fired his handgun at the security officer. The security officer then fired his department issued firearm, striking the defendant in the leg. Defendant Sanders was treated at a local hospital for his wound and released . He was transported to the Juvenile Detention .Center. The security officer was not injured in the shooting. The Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety Department was assisted by the Michigan State Police in the investigation of the shooting.
Trejion Sanders has been charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Felonious Assault, and three counts of Felony Firearm.*
He was arraigned today in Grosse Pointe Woods Municipal Court and given a $250,000 cash/surety bond. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for March 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for March 25, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.., before Judge Theodore Metry.
