Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Daysiana Lachell Powell, 31, of Detroit, in connection with concealing the death of her newborn son.

On July 8, 2026, at approximately 10:55 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 11300 block of East Seven Mile Road for reported unknown circumstance. Upon their arrival, officers located a blue tote inside of a dumpster containing the seriously decomposed and lifeless body of a child, wrapped in a white sheet. More complete facts and evidence will be placed on the record in court at the preliminary examination.

Daysiana Lachell Powell has been charged with one count of Concealing the Death of an Individual, with a maximum penalty of five years in prison. *

“It is hard to put into words the abject sadness of this case. The alleged actions of this defendant will haunt everyone involved for a very long time. May this baby have a proper final resting place and be in peace,” said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

She was arraigned on July 13, 2026, in 36th District Court before Magistrate Delphia Burton and received a $50,000 personal bond. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for July 21, 2026, and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for July 28, 2026, before Judge Shawn Jacque.
