Statement from Prosecutor Kym Worthy

“We have had many tragedies in Wayne County where children have died or suffered serious injury because the adults in their lives did not take a few minutes to ensure that their deadly weapons were secured. I have been preaching about this for over ten years. Hopefully one day I won’t have to," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Marcellis Dushaun Williams, 39, of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of his six-year-old daughter.

Upon their arrival, officers located the victim in a bedroom of the home, suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder and thumb. Officers transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that the child found an unsecured handgun in the home and fired it, striking herself in the shoulder and thumb.

Marcellis Dushaun Williams has been charged with Firearms – Safe Storage Violations – Premises Under Individual’s Control – Minor Present and Inflicted Serious Impairment of a Body Function Upon Self or Another. *
