Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Devon Jason Watson, 42, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal stabbing of Jaquoya Wix, 34, also of Detroit. Ms. Wix was an employee of Chipotle.

On September 20, 2026, at approximately 2:34 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a restaurant in the 600 block of Woodward Avenue for a reported stabbing. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim in the alley behind the restaurant, receiving treatment by medics for multiple stabs wounds. Ms. Wix was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

It is alleged that Defendant Watson approached the victim while she was sitting in the alley and stabbed her multiple times with a knife, before fleeing the scene. The defendant and the victim did not know each other. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of Defendant Watson a short time later.

Devon Jason Watson has been charged with one count of First-Degree Murder. *

“The alleged actions of this defendant appear to be random, but we are confident that we will be able to sustain the charge of First-Degree Premeditated Murder in a court of law. We will work hard to bring justice to Jaquoya and hold him accountable for her death,” said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

He was arraigned and remanded to jail this afternoon before Magistrate Laura Echartea in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 30, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 7, 2026, at 8:45 a.m. before Judge Shawn Jacque.
