Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Kevin Maurice Farries, Jr., 25, of Detroit, in connection with the carjacking and homicide of Keith Graus, 60, also of Detroit.

On February 10, 2026, at approximately 4:28 a.m., Mr. Graus arrived at a gas station located in the 15700 block of Joy Road in Detroit. When Mr. Graus entered the gas station, it is alleged that Defendant Farries entered the driver’s side of the victim’s vehicle. Mr. Graus then returned to his vehicle to pump gas. After finishing, and as he opened the driver’s side door, it is alleged that Defendant Farries physically attacked Mr. Graus, re-entered the vehicle, and struck him multiple times, fatally injuring the victim, before fleeing the scene. Medics responded to the scene and pronounced Mr. Graus deceased.

Later the same day, Michigan State Police Troopers located Defendant Farries at a gas station in the 7000 block of Greenfield Road in Dearborn. When Troopers attempted to apprehend Farries, it is alleged that the defendant fled from the scene at a high rate of speed. After a brief pursuit by the Michigan State Police with assistance by the Dearborn Police Department, Defendant Farries was apprehended near the intersection of Greenfield Road and Warren Avenue in Detroit.

Kevin Maurice Farries has been charged with Felony Murder, First-Degree Murder, and Carjacking. *

He was arraigned and remanded to jail this morning in 36th District Court before Magistrate William Burton. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for February 20, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for February 26, 2026, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Shawn Jacque.
