Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Orlando Jermaine Thomas, Jr., 30, in connection with a violent assault on his 26-year-old girlfriend at a Potbelly restaurant located in the 870 block of Woodward in Detroit. The defendant and the victim are Detroit residents.

On June 7, 2026, at 2:46 p.m. Detroit police officers were dispatched to the restaurant for an assault.  As they were pulling up, citizens flagged them down and pointed out the defendant who was walking down Congress near Griswold. He ran from the police and then stopped and was handcuffed and taken into custody at Griswold and North Larned. Medics arrived at the restaurant and conveyed the victim to a local hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that while Thomas was in the restaurant he threw tables and chairs at the complainant, as well as hitting and kicking her. It is further alleged that prior to going into the restaurant Thomas assaulted the victim on a DDOT bus by spitting on her and pushing her into the windshield of the bus causing the window to crack.

Orlando Jermaine Thomas, Jr. has been charged with Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Felonious Assault, Domestic Violence, and two counts of Malicious Destruction of Property – $200 or More but Less Than $1,000. *

He was arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court before Magistrate Joseph Boyer and received a $100,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether and house arrest. A bond re-determination hearing is scheduled for June 11, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge William Mcconico. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for June 18, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., before Judge Shawn Jacque. Please contact the Detroit Police Department for a photograph of the defendant.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy said, “The defendant’s alleged behavior in this case is difficult to wrap one’s head around and even harder to watch. It is domestic violence on steroids.
