Detroit Father Charged with Endangering One-Year-Old Daughter

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Kabamba E. Kyalangalilwa, 35, of Detroit, in connection with endangering his one-year-old daughter through a series of reckless actions.
On June 28, 2026, at approximately 11:30 a.m., it is alleged that Defendant Kyalangalilwa brought his daughter to a party at a residence in the 12800 block of Braile Street in Detroit. He then allegedly took the child to a neighboring home and asked unfamiliar individuals to allow her to swim with their children, leaving her in their care while he returned to the party. It is further alleged that the defendant returned approximately five hours later, intoxicated, operating a motorcycle. He then allegedly placed the child unsecured on the motorcycle and drove at a high rate of speed before losing control, causing both to fall and slide along the roadway. The child struck her head on a curb and sustained lacerations to her head, face, and legs. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the child to a local hospital for treatment. The defendant then allegedly attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle before abandoning it and fleeing on foot.
"I do not recall in all of my years as a prosecutor and judge ever seeing a set of facts like this. The alleged conduct of this defendant was way beyond atrocious and horrendous. This poor baby deserved the appropriate care, dedication, and simple human decency. It is miraculous that she is still among the living," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
Kabamba E. Kyalangalilwa has been charged with one count of Second-Degree Child Abuse, one count of Child Abandonment, one count of Fourth-Degree Child Abuse, one count of Operating While License Suspended, Revoked, or denied, and one count of Reckless Driving. *
He was arraigned on July 15, 2026, in 36th District Court before Magistrate Laura Echartea and received a $100,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether. On July 21, 2026, at the bond redetermination hearing before Judge Ruth Garrett, the defendant’s bond was lowered to a $25,000 personal bond with a GPS tether and a curfew from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. His next court date is a Preliminary Examination on August 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., before Judge Shawn Jacque.
