Defendant Lance Clowney Charged in Homicide of 3 Men on Edsel Street

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Lance Alan Clowney, 27, of Detroit, in connection with the homicides of Mark Barnett, 65, and Norman Hamlin, 66, both of Detroit, and Williams Barrett, 72, of River Rouge. Mr. Barrett was reported missing by his wife on February 18, 2026. As a result of an investigation by the Detroit Police Department, the bodies of the victims were discovered at Mr. Hamlin’s home later the same day.
On February 17, 2026, at Mr. Hamlin’s home, located in the 3100 block of Edsel Street in Detroit, it is alleged that Defendant Clowney struck the victims multiple times with a hammer and a knife, fatally wounding them, before fleeing the scene. More complete facts and evidence will be placed on the record in court at the preliminary examination.
Lance Alan Clowney has been charged with three counts of Premeditated First-Degree Murder. *
He was arraigned and remanded to jail on March 27, 2026, in 36th District Court before Magistrate William Burton. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for April 8, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for April 15, 2026, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Shawn Jacque.
Case 26-001447-01-FC - 69-year-old Male Victim
On February 22, 2026, Defendant Clowney was also charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, and Felonious Assault *, in connection with the non-fatal assault of a 69-year-old man, of Detroit, at Mr. Hamlin’s home located in the 3100 block of Edsel Street on February 17, 2026. His next court date is a Final Conference scheduled for May 8, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge John Gillis.
