Adult Designated Juvenile Charged in Non-Fatal Shooting on Waltham St.
Published on June 11, 2026
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 16-year-old juvenile male, of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shootings of a 19-year-old woman, a 24-year-old woman, a 42-year-old woman, and a 44-year-old man, all of Detroit. The juvenile respondent is not being charged as an adult defendant; he has been adult designated. This means that upon conviction an adult designation allows the judge to have the option of sentencing the respondent as a juvenile, or as an adult, or to fashion a blended juvenile sentence with the option of imposing an adult sentence if the juvenile is not rehabilitated.
On May 23, 2026, at approximately 1:08 a.m., at a residence in the 19300 block of Waltham Street in Detroit, it is alleged that the juvenile respondent produced and fired a handgun multiple times at the residence, before fleeing the scene. The victims were not injured in the shooting. An investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the juvenile on June 4, 2026. *
The juvenile respondent has been charged with four counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, one count of Discharge of a Firearm in or at a Building, and five counts of Felony Firearm. **
The Preliminary Hearing was held on June 10, 2026, in the afternoon before Referee Leslie Graves and the juvenile was remanded to the Juvenile Detention Facility. The Preliminary Examination is scheduled for June 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., in the Lincoln Hall of Justice before Judge Karen Braxton.
*The 16-year-old juvenile male is the brother of 20-year-old Anthony Boone who shot himself in the head during the execution of a search warrant in connection with the Waltham shooting.
**The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
