Wayne Man Charged in Fatal Car Crash and Escaping from Police Custody

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Antonio Dewayne Hollingsworth, 47, of Wayne, in connection with a car crash that killed Nicholas Cogswell, 44, of Garden City, and escaping from the custody of Inkster police officers.
On September 2, 2025, at approximately 12:50 p.m., Inkster police officers were dispatched to the area of Inkster Road and Lucerne Street for a reported car crash. Upon their arrival, officers located Mr. Cogswell lying in the road, unresponsive, suffering from an injury to his head. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Defendant Hollingsworth was taken into custody at the scene. It is alleged that Defendant Hollingsworth failed to yield when exiting a parking lot in the 1300 block of Inkster Road, before striking Mr. Cogswell, fatally injuring him.
On September 4, 2025, at approximately 11:15 a.m., Defendant Hollingsworth was transported by Inkster police officers to a local hospital for reports of chest pain. After receiving treatment, it is alleged that the defendant escaped from police custody and fled from the hospital on foot. At approximately 4:00 p.m., the defendant was located by Garden City police officers in the area of Ford Road and Inkster Road in Garden City and turned over to the Inkster Police Department.
Antonio Dewayne Hollingsworth has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – Less Than 25 Grams, Moving Violation – Causing Death, Escape from Lawful Custody, and Driving While License Suspended, Revoked, or Denied.*
He was arraigned this afternoon in 22nd District Court and received a $100,000/10% bond. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 17, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge Sabrina Johnson.
