Redford Teen Charged in Non-Fatal Shooting on School Bus

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged s 15-year-old juvenile male, of Redford, in connection with the nonfatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy, also of Redford.
On May 7, 2025, at approximately 2:45 p.m., Redford police officers were dispatched to Thurston Highschool, located in the 26000 block of Schoolcraft Road, for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his left hand. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
It is alleged that the juvenile brought an unsecured handgun to school in his backpack. It is further alleged that, while sitting on the school bus, the juvenile was handling the firearm when it discharged, striking the victim in the hand.
The juvenile respondent has been charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Careless Discharge of a Firearm – Causing Injury, and Possession of a Weapon in a Weapons-Free School Zone.*
The preliminary hearing was held this afternoon at the Juvenile Detention Center in the Wayne County Criminal Justice Center before Referee Anthony Crutchfield, and the juvenile received a $5,000/10% bond. The juvenile was ordered to have no contact with the victim, no possession of firearms, and no new police contact. A pre-trial is scheduled for May 12, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., before Referee Lachelle Logan via Zoom.
