Former Track Coach Charged in Sexual Assault of Student Athlete

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Nathan Lemuel Tedford, 54, of Detroit, in connection with the sexual assault of an 18-year-old boy, also of Detroit. Defendant Tedford was the victim’s teacher and coach at the time of the crime. The defendant is now a former track coach at East English Village Academy.

It is alleged that on May 29, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., at the defendant’s residence located in the 16000 block of Lenore in Detroit, Defendant Tedford sexually assaulted the victim. More complete facts and evidence will be placed on the record in court at the preliminary examination.

Nathan Lemuel Tedford has been charged with two counts of Fourth-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.*

He was arraigned on June 16, 2025, in 36th District Court, and was given a $30,000 cash/surety bond and ordered to have no contact with anyone under 18. Today, at the bond re-determination hearing, Judge William McConico raised the defendant’s bond to $50,000 cash/surety and he is ordered to have no contact with anyone under 21. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for June 26, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for July 3, 2025, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Shawn Jacque.
