Published on October 15, 2025
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Lacara Anita Parks, 37, and her 13-year-old daughter, both of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal stabbing of a 13-year-old girl, also of Detroit.
On October 8, 2025, at approximately 8:40 a.m., the two girls were attending Gompers Elementary School in the 14400 block of Burt Road in Detroit. It is alleged that Defendant Parks provided her juvenile daughter with a pocketknife to use if she needed to defend herself on the way home from school. The pocketknife was supplied by the defendant to her daughter on school property. Shortly thereafter it is alleged that the juvenile stabbed the victim multiple times with the pocketknife, non-fatally wounding her.
The juvenile respondent has been charged with Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, and Possession of a Weapon in a Weapons-Free School Zone.*
The preliminary hearing for the juvenile respondent was held on October 9, 2025, before Referee Leslie Graves in the Wayne County Criminal Justice Center, and the juvenile received a $10,000 cash/surety bond. She is ordered to have no contact with the victim, no possession of knives, and no contact with Gompers Elementary students. A pre-trial is scheduled for November 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. via Zoom before Referee Nicole Brown.
Lacara Anita Parks has been charged with two misdemeanors, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor and Possession of a Weapon in a Weapons-Free School Zone.*
Defendant Parks was arraigned today in 36th District Court before Magistrate Laura Echatea and received a $50,000 personal bond with a GPS tether. She is also ordered to have no possession of a firearm or other dangerous weapons, and no contact with Gompers Elementary School. A pre-trial is scheduled for October 29, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., before Judge Kenyetta Stanford Jones.
“This case illustrates that a lot of things went wrong on many levels and as a result a child was stabbed. It’s unacceptable. We can do so much better than this for our children,” said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
