Detroit Man Charged in Homicide of Three-Year-Old Girl

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Lovenia Spivey, 21, of Detroit, in connection with the death of a three-year-old girl, also of Detroit. Defendant Spivey is the boyfriend of the victim’s mother.
On November 15, 2024, at approximately 2:40 a.m., at a residence in the 14000 block of Riverview Street in Detroit, it is alleged that Defendant Spivey fatally assaulted the victim. Medics were called to the scene and transported the child to a local hospital for treatment. The victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on November 18, 2024. The Wayne County Medical Examiner determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. More complete facts and evidence will be placed on the record in court at the preliminary examination. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant on November 14, 2025.
Lovenia Spivey has been charged with Felony Murder and First-Degree Child Abuse.*
He was arraigned and remanded to jail on November 15, 2025, in 36th District Court before Magistrate William Burton. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for November 21, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for December 1, 2025, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Shawn Jacque.
