Detroit Man Charged in Homicide of Missing Man

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Michael Lovell-J Knox, 39, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Christian Epps, 27, also of Detroit. Mr. Epps was reported missing by his mother on October 30, 2025.
On October 30, 2025, at a residence in the 19300 block of Fleming Street in Detroit, it is alleged that a physical altercation between the defendant and the victim escalated, and Defendant Knox produced and fired a shotgun, fatally wounding Mr. Epps. It is further alleged that the defendant disposed of Mr. Epps’ lifeless body at another location.
On November 3, 2025, at approximately 4:22 p.m., Detroit Police Officers discovered the victim’s lifeless body in a vacant lot in the 19300 block of Fleming Street in Detroit. On November 17, 2025, an investigation by the Detroit Police Department led officers to a residence in the 12100 block of Glenfield Avenue, where Defendant Knox was barricaded inside. At approximately 4:44 p.m., the Detroit Police Department Special Response Team (SRT) was called to the scene, and a perimeter was set up around the home. After a two-hour standoff, Defendant Knox exited the residence and was taken into custody.
Micheal Lovell-J Knox has been charged with Second-Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, Mutilation of a Dead Body, and two counts of Felony Firearm. *
He was arraigned and remanded jail this morning in 36th District Court before Magistrate Delphia Burton. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for December 3, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for December 10, 2025, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Shawn Jacque.
