Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Terrell Epel Youngblood, 21, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy, also of Detroit.
On August 23, 2025, at approximately 8:14 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 14800 block of Monte Vista for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers canvassed the area and discovered the victim near the Adam Butzel Recreational Center in the 10000 block of Lyndon Street, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
It is alleged that Defendant Youngblood produced and fired a handgun multiple times, fatally wounding the victim, before fleeing the scene. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant on October 31, 2025.
Terrell Epel Youngblood has been charged with Second-Degree Murder, Felony Firearm, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.*
He was arraigned and remanded to jail on November 3, 2025, in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for November 10, 2025, and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for November 17, 2025, before Judge Shawn Jacque.
"No parent should have to bury their child,” said Chief Todd Bettison. “This cowardly act of violence was just heartless and senseless. It makes no sense whatsoever. I want to thank my officers for their relentless efforts in holding this person responsible and accountable. I want the family to know my thoughts and prayers are with you.”
Prosecutor Kym Worthy said, “These shootings are so profoundly violent and senseless. A 16-year-old boy is dead leaving his family with an unspeakable loss as a result of the alleged actions of a 21-year-old man. It is the definition of a tragedy.”
