Dearborn Man Charged in Michigan Avenue Non-Fatal Hit and Run

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Murtadha Jabbar Alizairij, 38, of Dearborn, in connection with a car crash that injured a 40-year-old man, also of Dearborn.
On August 23, 2025, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Dearborn police officers were dispatched to the area of Michigan Avenue and Howe Street for a reported car crash. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim lying on the sidewalk of Michigan Avenue, unresponsive. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
It is alleged that Defendant Alizairij was driving westbound on Michigan Avenue when he struck the victim as he was crossing the street, before fleeing the scene. More specific information about the case will be introduced as evidence at the preliminary examination.
Murtadha Jabbar Alizairij has been charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Felonious Assault, and Motor Vehicle Advisory.*
He was arraigned on August 25, 2025, in 19th District Court before Judge Gene Hunt and received a $750,000 cash/surety bond. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 3, 2025, at 8:00 a.m., before Judge Gene Hunt. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Dearborn Police Department.
