Detroit Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of Wife

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Taquan Miguel White, 37, (DOB: 07/01/1984), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of his wife, Shauntel Lewis, 34, also of Detroit.

On March 22, 2022, at approximately, 12:54 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 5070 block of Haverhill Street in Detroit for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim in the basement of the home, unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to the head. Medics arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

It is alleged that Defendant White produced and fired a handgun, fatally wounding the victim, before fleeing the scene. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant later the same day.

Taquan Miguel White has been charged with one count of First-Degree Murder, one count of Tampering with Evidenece, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and two counts of Felony Firearm. *

He was arraigned and remanded to jail this afternoon in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for April 7, 2022, and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for April 14, 2022, before Judge Kenneth King.
