RESCISSION OF AUGUST 25th HEALTH ADVISORY ON COUNTY WATERWAYS
Published on August 28, 2023
Date: August 28th, 2023
Issued by:
Warren C. Evans, Wayne County Executive
Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, Wayne County Health Officer
To All Residents,
After consulting with local municipalities at the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, the health risks associated with contact with County waterways, including the Huron, Detroit, and Lower Rouge Rivers have diminished substantially.
Therefore, Wayne County Department of Health, Human, and Veterans Services is rescinding the Health Advisory of August 25th, 2023 concerning the potential risks associated with contact with the river water due to the discharge of partially treated wastewater.
Updated Recommendations:
As a result of these positive developments, we are rescinding the earlier advisory. Residents can now resume normal recreational activities near and in the river. However, we always recommend following general guidelines for water safety and hygiene:
- Hygiene Practices: After any outdoor activities, including those involving water bodies, remember to bathe with soap and clean water.
- Fish Consumption: If you engage in fishing, continue to follow recommended guidelines for fish consumption from local water bodies.
We would like to thank you for your cooperation and understanding during the period of concern. Your health and safety are our utmost priorities, and we will continue to stay vigilant in monitoring the environmental conditions of our community.
