Pathway will provide easier accessibility to local recreation
The Wayne County Commission approved the two-year comprehensive executive budget for Fiscal Years (FY) 2026-27 and FY 2027-28, which certified revenues of $2.176 billion and $2.229 billion, respectively. Commissioners Terry Marecki (R-Livonia) and Melissa Daub (D-Canton) successfully negotiated a technical amendment within the budget to Certify Revenue Sources and Appropriation Uses for the Wilcox/Hines Pathway Connection Project located in Plymouth Township.
The technical amendment will grant $270,000 to Plymouth Township for construction costs of a safe pedestrian connection between a large residential area and Hines Park, including access to Wilcox Lake and the recently restored Ford Plant, Wilcox Mill. The project will improve access and connectivity to Hines Park, a longtime goal of Wayne County Parks.
“This project is about making it easier and safer for Plymouth Township residents to enjoy recreational opportunities right here in the community,” commented Commissioner Marecki. “The connection will serve as such a valuable link for pedestrians and families, while improving access to one of Wayne County’s most treasured parks. I’m pleased to have worked with Commissioner Daub to secure this funding and help make this long-standing goal a reality.”
“I was happy to collaborate with Commissioner Marecki to get this technical amendment approved,” added Commissioner Daub. “This pathway will open up more recreational access to residents of our districts and improve pedestrian safety.”
