County Commissioners 'Go Red for Women' to support heart patients
Published on February 07, 2022
Wayne County Commissioners agreed to "Go Red" at Monday's meeting, wearing red clothing and approving a resolution in support of the American Heart Association's annual Go Red for Women campaign, held each year in February.
"Heart disease is the leading cause of death for all women in America, yet women often ignore the symptoms," Commission Chair Alisha Bell said. "The annual Go Red campaign reminds women of the importance of taking care of their health and recognizing the warning signs."
While chest pain is the most common symptom for heart disease in women – as it is for men – women are also more likely to exhibit other underlying symptoms, including:
- Pain or discomfort in the neck, jaw, shoulder, upper back, abdomen or one or both arms.
- Shortness of breath.
- Nausea or vomiting.
- Sweating.
- Lightheadedness or dizziness.
- Unusual fatigue.
- Heartburn.
