With an initial round of vaccinations complete, Wayne County Health officials are looking to expand vaccination opportunities for those 65 and older.

County COVID-19 strategist Dr. Mouhanad Hammami told Wayne County Commissioners on Thursday that the county is looking to pair with communities and senior living facilities, as well as creating one-day Senior Day vaccination events, to assure more seniors are vaccinated.

Nearly 73,000 county seniors have received vaccinations to date, the vast majority through local hospital groups.

In other news:

  • The county is on track to meet the federal goal of making vaccinations available to all by mid-July, as recently announced by President Biden.
  • Vaccinations have been completed in Wayne County for those in nursing facilities, front line medical and public safety workers and teachers.
  • The start-up for vaccination for those under age 65 with pre-existing medical conditions has been targeted for sometime in May.

Dr. Hammami's presentation is available on the Wayne County Commission's YouTube page.
